Swimming Pool Shelters (Abri Piscine)

Installing an abri piscine is effectively the same as building a conservatory around your swimming pool, the only difference being that most abris are fully retractable, allowing for open-air swimming in the summer. They can normally be built free-standing, or as an extension to your house, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Some swimming pool shelters can include a safety barrier, which is extended to provide protection against accidents when the abri is open.

Year-round swimming.

An abri piscine can be the ideal choice if you want to swim throughout the year, without freezing to death the moment you get out!

An Abri Piscine Helps Keep The Pool Warm And Clean.

Abris piscine prevent leaves and dirt from being blown into the pool, thereby reducing the amount of chemicals you'll need to keep the water clean. They also reduce your pool heating costs.

Du Toit says:

If year-round swimming is important to you, an abri may be the best solution. However, most models won't prevent a child having unsupervised access to the pool when they are open.

For this reason, parents of small children may need to consider other (or additional) safety measures if the swimming pool shelter is likely to be opened regularly during the summer months.

Information

As the owner of a private swimming pool, you are liable to a fine of €45,000 if your pool is found not to comply with the new legislation. That rises to €225,000 for commercial or shared pools (i.e. pools shared between villas, hotel and restaurant pools or camping site pools).
